ABOUT THE ROLE
SafetyCall International/Pet Poison Helpline is looking for a seasoned HR leader to serve as our Director of Human Resources. In this role, you’ll own the full spectrum of HR from strategic planning and budgeting to employee relations and payroll to recruiting, benefits, and compliance while leading a team of 4 HR professionals supporting approximately 350 employees across 26 states. You’ll drive the HR Strategic Plan, shaping and executing initiatives that align with company-wide goals, while serving as both a trusted advisor to senior leadership and a hands-on operator who works alongside their team to get things done.
LOCATION & WORK ARRANGEMENT
Bloomington, MN Hybrid — Average 2 days in office, 3 days remote but can vary depending on week. Candidates outside 45 mile radius of the office may work fully remote and travel to the office as needed for onsite activities/meetings.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead, develop, and support a team of 4 HR professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing HR function
- Serve as the HR leader for a workforce of ~350 employees spanning 26 states, ensuring consistent and compliant practices across all locations
- Own the HR Strategic Plan — defining initiatives, aligning to company goals, and managing the HR budget
- Develop and oversee the HR payroll and budget, tracking spending and reporting status regularly to the VP of Administration
- Define and track key employee metrics — including FTE counts, turnover, and other workforce trends — to inform strategic decisions and report to senior leadership
- Lead all employee relations, investigations, and performance management, advising HR team, supervisors and senior leadership on complex situations including PIPs, disciplinary actions, and terminations
- Oversee and participate in managing FMLA, ADA, and Workers’ Comp cases and ensure company-wide compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Oversee full-cycle recruiting and participate in recruiting process as needed.
- Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs — enrollments, COBRA, open enrollment planning, invoice approvals, and broker relations.
- Oversee the processing of biweekly payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all states
- Champion employee morale and engagement, working proactively with the HR team,
- Directors and Managers on culture and team health
- Develop and deliver management training
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and at least 8 years of HR experience, including 3+ years at a management level. Director level experience preferred.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification highly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of employment law (MN PSSL, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and more), multistate preferred.
- Deep knowledge of employee relations best practices, including investigations, disciplinary
- processes, performance management and policy interpretation with the ability to balance
- employee advocacy and business needs.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop HR teams and advise leaders at all levels.
- High degree of discretion and ability to handle confidential matters with professionalism.
- Experience supporting a remote workforce preferred.
- Experience working with multi-state payroll preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and HRIS/payroll software.
- ADP experience a plus.
- Ability to adapt quickly, prioritize competing demands, and stay solution-focused under pressure.
Salary and Benefits: Exempt $100,000-$130,000 depending on experience. We offer a competitive and comprehensive benefits package. More info can be found on our website.
