As a member of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) Leadership Team, you will be expected to foster inclusive leadership that promotes equity, diversity, inclusion, and psychological and physical safety. You will bring strong political acumen and demonstrated experience leading transformational change, influencing leadership behaviours, and enabling innovation within complex public sector environments.
As the Director, Member Health & Safety, you will provide systems level leadership for CPS¿s health, safety, and abilities portfolio, leading service wide, prevention focused strategies within a complex, multi union policing environment. Reporting to the Executive Director, Wellness & Resiliency, you will provide strategic, evidence informed advice to the Senior Leadership Team while leading and developing senior professionals across Abilities Management, Occupational Health, and Occupational Safety. This role is accountable for strengthening leadership capability, influencing organizational culture, and delivering integrated frameworks that support member wellbeing, operational readiness, and proactive risk management across the Service. Primary responsibilities include:
Lead and develop senior professional teams, setting clear expectations, building leadership capacity, and holding teams accountable for delivering consistent, organization wide outcomes.
Shape and sustain CPS¿s safety culture by influencing leadership behaviours, integrating prevention focused practices, and enabling psychologically safe decision making at all levels.
Design, implement, and continuously improve enterprise level health, safety, and abilities frameworks, translating data, trends, and best practices into strategic insights that inform executive decisions and culture change.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with operational leaders, union partners, City stakeholders, and external agencies to align people, risk, and legislative obligations with operational realities.
Qualifications
A degree in Human Resources (HR), Occupational Health & Safety, Business, Public Administration or a related field and A minimum of 10 years of progressively senior leadership experience.
A minimum of 5 years in a senior management role, delivering complex outcomes within large, unionized organizations.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated experience as a systems level leader accountable for enterprise wide frameworks, cross functional integration, and the delivery of sustained organizational and culture change outcomes.
A certificate in Occupational Health & Safety is required or an equivalent depth of experience providing senior level leadership and governance over OHS functions; CRSP designation is an asset.
Experience in a law enforcement/first responder operational environment, including oversight of disability management, accommodation, or return to work programs, is an asset.

Position and Pay Information
Business Unit: Calgary Police Services
Union: Exempt
Position Type: 1 Permanent
Compensation: Level M3 $159,610 - 199,512 per annum
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
Days of work: This position works a 5 day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Location: 5111 - 47 Street N.E.
