Job Summary Director Public Safety - Security Services handles security and safety for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). Plans and directs security programs, procedures, and controls to deter crime. Protects BSWH patients, visitors, staff, employees, facilities, and assets from threats. Manages new security processes and guidelines to improve security. Plans and conducts security assessments, inspections, drills, and reviews. Ensures compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. Resolves security incidents and threats to BSWH hospitals, clinics, or facilities. May coordinate with local law enforcement when needed. Directs and reviews security work, including patrolling, inspecting, securing premises, and preventing loss. Informs violators of laws and BSWH policies, evicts trespassers, and responds to security requests. Protects BSWH patients, visitors, employees, and assets.
A System Director translates and implements strategic plans and goals for their area. Makes final judgments on operational matters and ensures achievement of goals. Recommends policies and organizational changes for the area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual goals. Erroneous judgments at this level can negatively impact the area's success, business unit, and possibly the overall organization's operations. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs. Manages and advises subordinates to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.
Essential Functions of the Role
• Directs public safety and physical security for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
• Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and goals for the public. Ensures alignment with BSWH business objectives and the communities it serves.
• Develops and implements policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, medical staff, and employees.
• Directs a professional police and security department and manages safety assessments, inspections, drills, and in-service activities.
• Ensures public safety and security staff maintain required education, certifications, and training. They must know the law as mandated by all regulations and federal, state, and local law.
• Directs the selection, implementation, and maintenance of physical security access control at all BSWH facilities. This includes a managed key control program, appropriate electronic surveillance systems, and support from security officers.
• Manages the preparation of reports, metrics, and dashboards for senior leadership. Provides consistent updates on crime statistics, trends, or vulnerabilities.
• Manages the control, regulation, and monitoring of vehicle and pedestrian traffic at all BSWH facilities. This includes all parking and pedestrian areas for patients, visitors, medical staff, and employees.
• Directs investigations of alleged violations of criminal law and hospital policy, ensuring appropriate incident reporting, records, and documentation.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and statutory requirements impacting security and safety in health care environments.
Key Success Factors
• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in law enforcement, public safety, security, or related field.
• 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
• Ability to conduct effective interviews of witnesses and suspects.
• Formal training in security protection, law enforcement, corrections, or military police preferred.
• Exceptional communication skills, with ability to effectively deal with unstable and volatile situations.
