JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Transportation is responsible for overseeing all aspects of transportation services for the College and supervising drivers. Manage program operations, plan and develop safe, adequate, and efficient transportation programs consistent with and supportive of the College’s strategic goals and policies while maintaining a strong customer service orientation with students, parents, faculty and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Provide leadership and direction for the planning, implementation, and efficiency of transportation programs at Beacon College.
- Manage day-to-day work plans and scheduling and manage the department budget.
- Develop policies and administrative guidelines for transportation services.
- Supervise assigned personnel, monitor, assess progress, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
- Develop and implement long and short-term plans and activities, to effectively and efficiently manage the college’s transportation fleet and site needs related to transportation.
- Direct the purchases and licensing of necessary transportation equipment and supplies in alignment with safety standards, project needs for additional or replacement buses or vehicles.
- Manage the training program for transportation operations to ensure drivers are aware of all rules and regulations related to transportation
- Coordinate and manage reporting, including Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), to meet timelines and requirements established by local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and policies.
- Responsible for CDL DOT Drug and Alcohol testing and reporting program.
- Review requests and complaints relating to transportation services and respond or make recommendations to appropriate division administrators.
- Maintain contact with other school districts, governmental agencies, and professional management associations to keep abreast of laws, regulations, statutes, policies, current research, and best practices.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Serve on committees, councils and task forces related to transportation services.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
Experience: 2+ years of related experience, including supervisory or leadership experience.
Pass the following per FDOT:
- Pre-Employment Drug Testing DOT requirement
- Drug and Alcohol Clearing House DOT requirement
Licensing:
- Maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required to drive Beacon College vehicles.
- 2+ years verifiable driving experience required with a Class “A” or “B” CDL license with Passenger endorsement and a current medical card.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and College policies as they pertain to transportation services
- Knowledge of routing technologies, budgetary processes, transportation procedures, and transportation maintenance
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
- Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and Fleet Management software.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
- Strong service orientation with a demonstrated ability to effectively meet the needs of and work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and public.
- Availability and willingness to participate in evening and weekend on-call duties and respond to emergencies. Hours are subject to different factors including, but not limited to, enrollment, occupancy, emergencies, and other departmental needs.
