Overview
The Larimer County Community Development Department is looking for a skilled and experienced individual to join our team as an Energy Code Specialist!
The Energy Code Specialist performs technical work reviewing building construction plans and conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with adopted energy codes and standards. The position provides expert guidance to staff, contractors, and the public; develops educational resources; supports energy code implementation and adoption efforts; and contributes to regional and state energy initiatives.
The typical schedule for this position is primarily in-office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This Limited Term position is expected to continue through June 30, 2028.

Responsibilities
What you'll be doing:
- Reviews commercial, industrial, and residential construction plans and specifications to determine compliance with applicable energy code provisions.
- Verifies energy code documentation, including COMcheck, REScheck, or simulation modeling reports.
- Plans, coordinates, and delivers training sessions and workshops for internal staff, contractors, and design professionals.
- Evaluates building envelope, mechanical, lighting, and service water heating systems for compliance with efficiency and control requirements.
- Provides customer service and technical support to designers, contractors, and the public on energy code provisions and interpretations.

What we're looking for:
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and manage training programs and educational activities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with County employees, partner agencies, community organizations, and members of the public.
- Knowledge of energy conservation principles, building science concepts, and applicable energy code requirements.
Qualifications
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
- Three (3) years of experience in plan review, building inspection, energy code compliance, or related field required.
- Possession of the following certifications within 90 days of hire, required:
- IECC/HERS Compliance Specialist Designation from the International Code Council (ICC) (or equivalent)
- ICC Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner Certification (or equivalent)
- ICC Commercial Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner Certification (or equivalent)
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
