- Fire Safety Inspector-Plan Reviewer
Description
This position performs advanced technical and administrative work related to fire and life safety code compliance. Responsibilities include reviewing development and construction plans, fire protection system designs, shop drawings, and related documentation to ensure compliance with adopted fire codes, standards, regulations, and policies. The role also assists with and conducts inspections of buildings and fire and life safety systems to verify installations and construction align with approved plans and applicable requirements.
Additional duties include conducting technical research; interpreting and applying fire code requirements; and providing guidance to design professionals, contractors, business owners, the public, and multi-jurisdictional staff regarding fire and life safety compliance. The position prepares detailed and accurate documentation of findings, recommendations, and compliance determinations. This role operates as part of the Technical Services Program within the Fire Prevention and Community Risk Reduction (FPCRR) Division.
Requirements
Education:
- Associates degree or higher in fire science, construction management, or related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
- 3 years of experience in plan review, building inspections, fire inspections, construction.
- 2 years of experience in plan review of fire protection systems and acceptance testing.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licenses/Certifications:
*Required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment with PFA
- Valid driver’s license
- International Code Council (ICC)
- Fire Inspector I
- Fire Inspector II
- Obtain within 6 months of hire:
- CPR certification
- Fire Investigation Certification IAAI-FIT or NAFI.
- Obtain within 1 year of hire:
- International Code Council (ICC) Fire Plans Examiner.
- State of Colorado Certification Fire Inspector III – Plans Examiner.
- Alternative certifications such as NICET, NFPA, or state approved fire marshal programs, fire protection systems certifications from within industry, or similar, may be considered.
