The Spokane Mining Research Division is part of the NIOSH Mining Program. The Program serves as the focal point for miner safety and health research at NIOSH. Located in beautiful Spokane, Washington, we operate a state-of-the-art facility in a growing city that offers a well-balanced lifestyle with many outdoor activities, cultural events, and high-quality schools!

Salary: $75,068 - $116,969 per year

Requirements

Position Description:

The person in this role will be responsible for conducting mining and ground control research with a group of multidisciplinary researchers on the team. The team focuses on reducing hazards to mine workers through applied laboratory and field research.

What you'll be doing day to day:

As a General Engineer, you will carry out the duties and responsibilities outlined below:

• Design, initiate, and conduct basic and applied research addressing mining health and safety issues.
• Lead and perform field and laboratory investigations, data collections, and technical assessments aimed at reducing mining-related injuries and fatalities
• Apply engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to develop applied solutions for occupational safety and health challenges.
• Utilize data-analysis methods and tools to accurately analyze, interpret, and communicate engineering and scientific findings.
• Plan, coordinate, and manage research projects to ensure successful completion by collaborating with industry stakeholders, contractors and cross-functional teams to provide relevant results in a timely manner.
