About the Role
The Head of Compliance, ANZ China is accountable to the ANZ China Board for the overall compliance management of ANZ China. This includes the implementation and maintenance of high-quality compliance programs with a strong focus on:
- Communicating and embedding Group and Divisional compliance risk appetites and compliance/governance culture in China.
- Ensuring compliance incidents and breaches are appropriately recorded, managed, and escalated in accordance with Group and Divisional policy.
- Providing subject matter expert oversight of AML/Sanctions legislation, rules, and ANZ Group policy and requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with both local and Group requirements in China.
As a key member of the China Risk team, the role supports the CRO China in risk initiatives to deliver effective compliance risk management, strong governance, and high performance in a dynamic and evolving environment.

What will your day look like?
As the Head of Compliance, ANZ China you will;
- Identify regulatory changes in China that may impact ANZ China and assess associated compliance risks.
- Facilitate effective compliance management across ANZ China, ensuring alignment with local and Group requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key external regulators, acting as the senior contact point.
- Partner with Regional Compliance and Risk Executives (including FCC) to implement Group/Divisional programs while meeting local laws and regulations.
- Support the design and implementation of policies and procedures to meet regulatory and internal ANZ requirements.
- Ensure effective processes for regulatory engagement, distribution of regulatory updates, and management of regulatory change.
- Ensure adherence to ANZ Group's I.Am Amplified framework for non-financial risk management as SME, CRTO and Risk Officer.
- Engage with SMEs to ensure obligations are met and that processes exist to identify actual or potential breaches.
- Oversee timely incident reporting and incident management.
- Provide compliance input in internal/external forums and deliver periodic compliance training on regulatory, Group and internal policies.
- Ensure ongoing development of the Compliance Team. Empower the team so there is a consistent compliance view for the business and stakeholders will be key.
- Act as subject matter expert on compliance management and enhance the effectiveness of governance to ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulatory and ANZ Group requirements. This also extends to Financial Crime and Markets Compliance activities.
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Extensive relevant experience with the qualifications required by the NFRA, and deep knowledge of key regulations in China and the regulatory frameworks affecting various business lines.
- Strong understanding of local AML, Sanctions and KYC laws and regulations.
- Strong, decisive, action-oriented team player with a collaborative working style.
- Effective communicator (oral and written) with the ability to work with multicultural teams across geographies, including strong board-level and senior-stakeholder presentation skills.
- Mandarin fluency, as the role requires regular engagement with local regulators, authorities and internal stakeholders
- Sound product knowledge across Markets, Corporate Finance and Transaction Banking, with a clear understanding of the regulatory implications for each business line.
- Positive, "can-do" attitude.
