Description
About Commercial Casework Inc.:
Commercial Casework Inc. is one of the Bay Area's leading Architectural Millwork & Cabinetry companies. Founded in 1976, we've spent 50 years building a reputation for craftsmanship and reliability, supplying some of the Bay Area's top companies. Our headquarters is in Fremont, CA, and we recently opened a second location in Sacramento, CA. The new facility gives current employees the opportunity to relocate and opens the door to new hires as we continue to grow and meet customer demand.
As we grow across two locations, we're looking for a Human Resources Manager to build and run the HR function as its sole owner. This is a true department-of-one role: rather than managing a team, you'll manage the entire employee experience yourself; setting priorities, driving initiatives, and partnering directly with company leadership rather than delegating through direct reports. You'll report to the CFO, with a standing bi-weekly meeting alongside both the CEO and CFO, giving this role direct visibility with executive leadership despite having no direct reports of its own. It's an ideal fit for an experienced HR professional who is highly self-directed, comfortable wearing multiple hats, and motivated by full ownership of the function rather than by managing up through a larger department.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as a strategic HR partner to operational leaders, coaching and guiding them on performance management, corrective action, and other matters of organizational risk to drive performance and adherence to company policy.
- Develop and implement HR strategy, objectives, goals, and system improvements to support continuous improvement across the organization.
- Own the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding.
- Manage full-cycle recruitment: draft and post job requisitions, screen and interview candidates (running background checks and calling references), coordinate hiring decisions with department managers, and extend offers.
- Maintain the employee handbook; develop, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures, ensuring consistency across all locations.
- Ensure organizational compliance with federal and California employment law, including FEHA, ADA, FMLA/CFRA, wage and hour requirements, and other applicable state and local regulations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions and concerns, partnering with leadership and interpreting HR/company policy to ensure consistency.
- Lead employee relations efforts, including conflict resolution, workplace investigations, and disciplinary processes, in partnership with management.
- Administer compensation and benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), ESOP contributions, and PTO; support annual open enrollment and benefits communication.
- Collaborate with management on employee retention strategy, identifying at-risk employees and coaching and training managers on retention best practices.
- Manage leave of absence requests and workplace accommodations, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state law.
- Design and deliver training and development programs for supervisors and managers on HR-related topics such as performance management, coaching, and employment law compliance.
- Oversee HRIS and payroll-adjacent recordkeeping, ensuring accurate and up-to-date employee data.
- Facilitate completion of required documents related to pay, benefits, and policies, as well as new hire paperwork.
- Track and report on HR metrics such as turnover, time-to-fill, and retention to support data-driven decision-making.
- Support ESOP-related employee education and communication in partnership with leadership.
- Handle offboarding and exit interview processes in collaboration with the Department Manager and Accounting.
Pay & Benefits:
- Salary of $110,000.00 to $125,000.00 annually, depending on experience
- Company pays 100% of Medical benefits for employees (80% for dependents)
- Company pays 100% of Dental and Vision benefits for employees and dependents
- 15 PTO days to start, up to 25 days based on years of service
- 10 paid holidays
- 401(k), Traditional or Roth, with employer matching up to 3%
- ESOP contributions
- Quarterly bonus (variable), historically averaged 15–25% of base salary
- Additional reimbursements: cell phone, auto, gym, and childcare
