- Inspector II - Plan Reviewer/Building Inspector
Description
The City of East Lansing is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team as an Inspector II – Plan Reviewer/Building Inspector. This is a key position within the city's Building Department responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of residential and commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in plan review and building inspection, strong knowledge of Michigan building codes, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment and contribute directly to the responsible growth and development of the East Lansing community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Reviewing building plans and specifications for compliance with the Michigan Residential Code, Michigan Building Code, and related regulations.
- Conducting on-site inspections of construction and remodeling projects to ensure code compliance.
- Maintaining accurate records and preparing detailed reports on inspection activities.
- Providing technical support and code interpretation to contractors, developers, and the public.
- Collaborating with other inspectors and departments to ensure smooth project execution.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Additional education or training in Architecture, Engineering, Building Codes, or Zoning Regulations is highly desirable.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in plan review and construction inspection.
Licensing & Certification:
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Plan Reviewer and Building Inspector Registration issued by the State of Michigan.
- Must have a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and a strong driving record.
