Under the direction of the Chief, Office of Airports, Senior Aviation Safety Officer, acting independently or in a lead capacity, the Aviation Safety Officer II performs aviation safety and permit compliance functions that implement the State Aeronautics Act. The position has a regulatory role in enforcing State aeronautics laws and regulations. The Aviation Safety Officer II provides technical expertise to local agencies and airport/heliport owners/operators in the development, planning and effective operation of aeronautical facilities.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Aviation Safety Officer II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
