Sunnyvale (pop. 162,000) is the sixth-largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area and second largest in Santa Clara County. The Human Resources Department, with a budget of $7.5 million and 25 employees, provides full-service HR programs and services to the City.
Sunnyvale seeks a service-oriented, experienced public sector professional who thrives in a team environment as its next Risk Manager. The ideal candidate is respected for their technical expertise, sound judgment, discretion, and leadership skills. They will bring knowledge of public safety operations, California workers’ compensation statutes as well as experience administering self-insurance programs, overseeing a TPA, and managing liability claims.
Requirements
Qualified candidates will have 4 years of experience performing professional level risk management work, including prior lead or supervisory experience, along with a Bachelor’s degree. Designation as an associate in risk management (ARM) by the Insurance Institute of America is desired.
Salary range $165,839 - $207,298, DOQE, plus a Lead Worker/Supervisor premium of 3.5% on paid hours and an excellent benefits package. Closes Sunday, September 20, 2026.
