Job Summary As a Registered Nurse on the Medical-Surgical Unit, you will provide safe, compassionate, and comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
Responsibilities include performing patient assessments, recognizing changes in health status, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, and evaluating patient responses to care. You will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care and promote positive patient outcomes.
You will follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and appropriately delegate tasks based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice.
Essential Functions of the Role
• As an RN, conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs. Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans and adjust interventions based on patient response.
• Provide nursing care to adult patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and communicate concerns promptly to the appropriate members of the healthcare team.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, treatments, and other interventions according to patient needs and established standards of care.
• Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families while maintaining professionalism and providing compassionate care.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge needs. Assess and document learning needs and patient understanding.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
• Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice, while following up to ensure care is completed safely and effectively.
• Use critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to identify patient needs, prioritize care, and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Contribute to a positive team environment by supporting peers, participating in professional development, and promoting quality and patient safety.
Key Success Factors
• Strong understanding of nursing principles, patient care standards, and medical-surgical procedures.
• Ability to provide care for patients with a variety of acute and chronic medical and surgical conditions.
• Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
• Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines, including the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
• Proficiency in medical terminology, common medications, disease processes, and treatment interventions.
• Understanding of professional nursing ethics, patient privacy, and confidentiality.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Excellent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage care for multiple patients in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer skills, including electronic medical documentation, email, Microsoft Office, and other hospital systems.
Position Details
• Medical-Surgical Unit
• Adult medical and surgical patient population
• 12-hour day shifts: 7:00 AM-7:00 PM
• Full-time, 36 hours per week
• Self-scheduling

Qualifications
• Grad of an Accredited Program
• Specialized field of study should be nursing.
• RN license.
• Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
