Position Description
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist will oversee regulatory compliance in the field and fabrication shops, injury prevention, risk assessment, communications, and safety training. Position is based out of Mansfield, Ohio and will require travel throughout Northcentral and Central Ohio.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur
- Works with Safety Manager to plan, implement and supervise all project safety
- Reports safety performance measurement with a focus on leading indicators on a monthly basis
- Analyzes and recommends corrective action for incidents and trends
- Reinforces safety culture with field employees, including subcontractors
- Completes weekly site visits and inspections on construction projects and in steel fabrication shop.
- Participate in inspections from regulatory agencies
- Attends project related safety and pre-construction meetings
- Assists in incident, injury and near miss investigations
- Provides and oversees safety orientation and training for employees including, at a minimum: Rigging Fundamentals, Signalperson, Crane Safety, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety, and other training as needed including utilizing outside vendors/resources
- Develops and distributes Toolbox Talks and safety communications/alerts
- Assists in development of site-specific safety plans
- Tracks safety expenditures and helps to establish safety program budget
- Periodically administer in-house substance abuse testing (post-incident/random/for cause)
- Occasionally helps with minor bidding issues, marketing, manpower, and recruiting
- Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
Position Requirements
- OSHA 500 Certified, OSHA 30 certifications, First Aid/CPR/AED, Forklift Training, Crane Safety, Fall Protection, Rigging/Signaling required or willingness to complete within sixty (60) days from date of hire
- Strong Microsoft Office skills required
- Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- 4 years of Construction experience
- 2 -5 years of Safety experience
