Staff Engineer, Aircraft Performance, General Electric Company, Evendale, OH:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Conduct technical planning and execution of aircraft studies. Orchestrate aircraft mission analysis including: fuel burn, payload, and range assessments of various aircraft and route networks. Address data points from aircraft mission analysis in parallel to economic value assessments to ultimately support future product strategy, engine design optimization, and marketing and sales campaigns. Work directly with leaders in a cross-organizational team comprised of the engineering, engine product line, marketing and sales teams. Create current and future aircraft models with GE & partner engines and competitor engines. Define aircraft performance and economic studies that answer customer questions related, but not limited to: technical requirements development (thrust, offtakes, constraints, etc.), or engine design, integration and optimization. Provide support, results and key conclusions to engineering, engine product line, marketing, sales and leadership. Support GE product strategy and design development through assessment of potential future aircraft and engine performance capability. Contribute to hybrid electric studies and to work scope planning on potential hybrid opportunities. Collaborate with senior leadership to shape strategy. Interact effectively with airframe contacts regarding performance, integration, and economic issues. Participate on cross functional industry teams. Drive improved efficiency, capability, and fidelity into standard processes through continuous improvement and accountability.
Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related and seven (7) years of experience in systems engineering within the aircraft or airline industry.
Alternatively, a master’s degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related and five (5) years of experience in systems engineering within the aircraft or airline industry.
Of the required experience, must have five (5) years of experience in all of the following:
- Aircraft Performance modeling and analysis with ability to execute independently of specific tool;
- Preliminary design in traditional aircraft and future designs (e.g., Hybrid Electric);
- Design Optimization Methods;
- Programming and Scripting in Python, Excel VBA, C/C++, and NPSS;
- Analysis and reporting for aircraft performance factors (e.g., fuel burn, payload, or range assessments of aircraft and route networks) versus economics airline strategic decisions (e.g., GDP growth, trade facilitation, oil prices, or economic methodologies); and
- Ability to lead and execute complex projects to influence senior level leaders.
This position allows for a hybrid work arrangement. Candidate may work remotely 2 days per week, within a reasonable distance (50 miles or less) of company location in Evendale, OH.
Approximately 20% domestic/international travel to unanticipated airframer sites to support preliminary design work on future product studies with airframers. Travel expenses paid by employer.
