Technical Director – Radio Shop for Police & Fire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (on-call for emergencies)

This role leads the systems behind Police, Fire, and emergency communications across Fort Wayne and Allen County. You’ll be responsible for reliability, compliance, and long-term direction of a regional public safety radio system.
What You’ll Do
Oversee and lead the City’s public safety radio infrastructure, ensuring systems are stable, compliant, and prepared for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise Radio Shop staff, including hiring, training, and performance management
- Direct operation, maintenance, and expansion of P25 and trunked radio systems
- Serve as system manager for the Consolidated Communications Partnership (CCP)
- Manage FCC licensing and coordinate with City, County, State, and mutual aid partners
- Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and system upgrades
What You Bring | Education & Experience
- Experience with public safety radio systems (Police, Fire, 911 environments)
- Strong working knowledge of P25, trunked radio systems, RF principles, and FCC regulations
- Leadership experience overseeing technical teams or system operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent experience

- FCC General Radiotelephone License
- CETa certification
- Motorola / ASTRO system certifications
- Technical Skills & Knowledge in: Motorola ASTRO / P25 systems
- RF systems and infrastructure
