About the PositionJob Title: Mammography Technologist I Profession: Mammography Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1st Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in performing mammography preferred License: Advanced certification through ARRT in ARRT-M required within 12 months of hire Certifications: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent required within 90 days of hire Must-Have: Mammography, Breast Imaging, Clienttion Safety, OSHA Compliance, PACS Description: Performs mammographic exams. Responsible for identifying and resolving issues related to images, equipment, and quality control. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and clinical staff, students, and patients. Performs Breast Imaging related exams according to medical and department standards and department protocol. This imaging is performed to obtain diagnostic quality examinations within proper radiation safety and OSHA guidelines. Exams are performed efficiently with a minimum of delay between patients following established protocols. Expected to consistently meet the schedule and quality requirements for all exams. Operates mammography department equipment according to protocols as defined by the manufacturer and other recognized authority. Recognizes and reports equipment malfunctions or other technical issues to appropriate resources. Prepares the exam room prior to the next patient's arrival in a manner that promotes increased department efficiency. Prepares patients for exams by providing a clear explanation of the procedure and answering patient questions. Provides appropriate instructions and positioning to obtain maximum image quality. Addresses patient questions and concerns regarding mammography and breast procedures. Assists and thanks patients at the conclusion of the exam. Produces high-quality images and ensures that all images are appropriately labeled and identified. Recognizes normal anatomy and physiology, normal variations, and pathology and adjusts the imaging process as needed to demonstrate all. Assures that all applicable images are archived to PACS and that the integrity of the data is maintained. Performs PACS reconciliation accurately and completely without follow-up. Assists other technologists, radiologists, and other providers with image quality concerns. Demonstrates proficiency and knowledge of Epic, Clientnt Information Systems, and mammography reporting systems. Correctly and accurately enters and schedules orders, checks in patients, begins and ends exams, bills supplies, documents notes, cancels or credits submissions, and reviews patient history for pertinent clinical information and contraindications. Performs end-of-day reconciliation for all exams performed. Proactively looks for opportunities that will increase department efficiency and provide a cohesive working staff environment. Routinely offers to help others in the performance of their duties and assists in getting or beginning the next patient. Regularly stocks supplies and linen, removes dirty linen, cleans work areas, and patient care rooms. Ensures exam rooms are left clean and well organized for the next staff member and patients' use. Supports functions of the Lead and QA technologist. Assists when needed with routine quality control, answering phones, scheduling patients, coordinating inpatients, and providing instructions to medical staff and patients. Provides a positive teaching environment for co-workers, students, residents, providers, and new staff. Completes all required documentation in a timely and efficient manner. All information is complete and accurate at the time it is performed and requires no follow-up. Prevents or eliminates potential problems that may arise by using intuitive skills and multitasking. Provides assistance to radiologists and other medical staff during the performance of all mammography exams. Follows procedure to prepare lab specimens, labels, etc., and arranges for timely transport or takes them directly to the lab. Demonstrates an understanding of infection control and sterile technique. Maintains the exam room area in a clean and orderly state in accordance with Hospital Infection Control guidelines.
