About the PositionJob Title: Medical Laboratory Technician Profession: Medical Laboratory Technician Specialty: Medical Laboratory Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Valid state licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technician Certifications: Flu vaccine required Must-Have: - Ability to perform accurate testing to assist in patient care in a timely manner. - Proficient in laboratory tests following established procedures in accordance with State and Federal regulations. - Skilled in blood collection techniques including venipuncture, capillary, and pediatric collection. - Ability to review results and logs for technical or clerical errors. - Capability to generate complete and accurate reports. - Proficient in verifying, reporting, and documenting alarm values promptly. - Participation in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement studies as necessary. - Competent in performing and reviewing Quality Control values. - Familiarity with maintaining inventory of technical supplies. - Ability to perform and document daily and periodic maintenance. - Experience in performing calibrations as necessary. - Capable of troubleshooting and documenting instrument problems. - Willingness to utilize hotlines and call in services when required. - Flexibility to assist others with their assigned duties when needed. - Willingness to adapt to changes, duties, calls, and shifts in emergency situations. - Ability to maintain good working relationships with service physicians and the general public. - Maintains a satisfactory attendance record. - Works well independently. - Demonstrates satisfactory availability and response when on call. - Complies with departmental and hospital policy and procedure following State and Federal regulations. - Adheres to OSHA standards and universal precautions. - Assists in training and guiding new staff technologists. Description: The role involves performing medical laboratory tests to assist in patient care efficiently. Candidates must have the ability to follow established laboratory procedures according to regulatory standards. Proficiency in blood collection techniques is essential for this position. Individuals will be responsible for reviewing laboratory results to ensure accuracy and completeness. Generating comprehensive reports and documenting alarm values are critical tasks. Moreover, participation in QA/QI studies to maintain high standards of laboratory services is required. The technician will also manage inventory, perform equipment maintenance, and calibrate instruments as necessary. Troubleshooting any instrument issues and helping colleagues with their responsibilities is essential. Flexibility in work hours and duties, along with good communication skills, are vital for maintaining connections within the healthcare environment. Additionally, compliance with all relevant policies and safety regulations is expected. There will be a role in mentoring new staff, enhancing the team’s capabilities and quality of service.
