Description
Job Responsibilities- Lead the implementation, oversight, and continuous enhancement of the 2LOD Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) framework and control environment for SMBC APAC, in close partnership with the Credit Department, under the strategic direction of the Executive Director.
- Own the design, development, and strategic enhancement of CCR frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and internal risk appetite.
- Provide independent challenge and oversight of CCR risks, including comprehensive monitoring of the CCR portfolio across APAC, ensuring exposures remain within approved risk appetite and limits.
- Drive portfolio-level risk assessment, including stress testing, wrong-way risk analysis, and emerging risk identification, and escalate key risks to senior management proactively.
- Oversee governance, reporting, and timely remediation actions relating to CCR exposures, including regulatory deliverables and engagement with regulators when required.
- Act as a senior stakeholder liaison, leading cross-functional collaboration with Front Office, Treasury, Credit, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Head Office in Tokyo to ensure robust risk management practices.
- Lead and contribute to strategic risk management initiatives across APAC, including new product approvals, risk infrastructure improvements, and regulatory change programs.
- Direct preparation and delivery of high-quality risk reporting and presentations to senior management committees, providing clear insights, recommendations, and actionable outcomes.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a strong risk culture and enhancing team capability.
- Degree or equivalent qualification; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in credit risk within financial institutions, with significant experience in Counterparty Credit Risk.
- Strong and in-depth understanding of CCR-related businesses, products (e.g., derivatives, securities financing), associated risks (including stress testing and wrong-way risk), and legal/documentation frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging senior stakeholders and operating under senior leadership direction, with the ability to translate strategic guidance into execution.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to articulate complex risk issues clearly to senior management; fluent in written and spoken English.
- Proven ability to operate at a strategic level while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and decision-making capability.
