Description
The City of Attleboro Water Treatment Plant seeks a Water Maintenance Craftsman/Hoisting Operator/Laborer who, under the general supervision of the Superintendent and the direction of a general foreman, working foreman or foreman, operates trucks and equipment with a rated capacity over 9 tons and hoisting equipment.
Duties include Performs journeyman level skilled labor duties in the construction and repair of the water distribution system, including work on reservoirs, water gates, mains and connectors. Lays and connects service pipes with street mains and meters. Turns on water for new service. Locates and repairs water leaks. Installs fire hydrants. Installs, repairs and test water meters. Operates hoisting equipment such as backhoes, cranes, power shovels, trench diggers, pile drivers, front end loaders and catch basin machines. Supervises a crew of three or more at a lower skill level. Operates motor driven equipment including trucks with a rated capacity over 9 tons, tractors, semi-trailers, truck –trailer combinations, and special equipment such as road rollers, rotary snow plows, mobile highway graders, mobile bituminous spreaders, and tar distributors. May perform duties of a Heavy MEO. May perform duties and operate equipment normally operated by a Motor Equipment Repairman. Sweeps sidewalks, rakes lawns, hauls debris, shovels snow, plows and sands roads. Cleans, washes, gases, oils and greases trucks and automobiles; changes tires and performs other minor maintenance on equipment. Loads and unloads trucks; picks up and hauls materials; transports personnel. Participates in City Snow and Ice Program. Performs related work as required.
High School diploma or GED required. Two years experience in performing manual work and operating hoisting equipment required. Commercial Driver’s License, Class B, Hoisting License 2B, and Massachusetts Grade 2 Distribution License required. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Considerable knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a variety of heavy and complex construction and related equipment used in excavating, loading, working to grade, rolling and street resurfacing. Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety rules in the operation of this equipment.
