- Water Operator
Description
To perform skilled technical work in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of a municipal water treatment and distribution system to ensure safe, reliable, and regulatory compliant public water supply. The position is responsible for operating advanced treatment processes, conducting water quality testing and data reporting, maintaining wells, facilities, mains, valves, hydrants, and meters, and responding to routine and emergency system conditions. Work requires technical judgment, mechanical aptitude, adherence to safety and regulatory standards, and participation in on call response to protect public health and system reliability.

Requirements
Candidates with training or experience that demonstrate a solid understanding of water technology and/or water distribution construction will be viewed favorably, though this background is not required to apply. A Class D Water Operator Certificate is required within two years of hire, and all candidates must be able to maintain a 20-minute on-call response time.
Candidates with any of the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply and may qualify for a higher pay range:
Prior water treatment plant experience, particularly with chemical precipitation softening
Experience in a similar industrial or municipal utility setting
A current Class B Water Certificate
Prior plant experience is not required — MMU is committed to training and certification support that helps motivated entry-level candidates grow into the role.
