Laboratory Technician

The City of North Kansas City is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support its Water Pollution Control program by conducting industrial and commercial wastewater inspections, sampling, and field testing to ensure compliance with sewer ordinances and permit requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect industrial and commercial operations for compliance with discharge ordinances and permits
Collect and composite wastewater samples; perform routine chemical and physical field tests
Inspect and evaluate waste treatment equipment including floor drains, clarifiers, grease traps, and neutralizing tanks
Operate and maintain water pollution control monitoring equipment
Test sewers for explosive gases; document findings and prepare reports
Report irregularities and unusual waste discharge characteristics to supervisor
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in chemistry, biology, or related sciences preferred
Six months of experience in wastewater sampling and routine chemical/physical testing, or equivalent education and experience
Must obtain a Class D Wastewater license within one year of employment
Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License required
Must be available for emergency call-in
Compensation: $24.50 – $30.00/hr
